About X-Ray Imaging

An X-ray (radiograph) uses a small, controlled dose of ionising radiation to produce images of bones and dense internal structures. It is one of the fastest and most commonly used forms of medical imaging, used to assess fractures, joint conditions, chest and lung conditions, and more.

Examinations we perform

• Spine — cervical, thoracic, and lumbar
• Full spine and scoliosis studies
• Upper limb — shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand, and fingers
• Lower limb — hip, knee, ankle, foot, and toes
• Pelvis and sacrum
• Abdomen
• Skull and sinuses

Preparation

No special preparation is needed for most X-rays. Wear comfortable, accessible clothing and remove jewellery or metal objects near the area being imaged. If you are pregnant or may be pregnant, let us know when you book.

What to expect

Our radiographer will position you for each image — you may be asked to stand, sit, or lie down depending on the area being examined. You will hold still briefly while each image is captured. Most X-ray appointments take 10–20 minutes. You will not feel anything during the X-ray itself.

Radiation safety

Diagnostic X-rays use very low radiation doses and are considered safe. We follow ALARA principles — the minimum dose needed to produce a diagnostic image. If you have concerns, speak to our staff or your referring doctor before your appointment.

Results

Your images are reviewed by our radiologist who prepares a written report. Reports are sent to your referring practitioner within 24–48 business hours. For clinically urgent situations, contact us and we can expedite the report.
